Amazon, OSHA Reach Agreement Over Distribution Center Citations

Tuesday, May 7, 2019 | 0

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has reached an informal settlement with Amazon for unsafe workplace conditions at the company’s temporary distribution center in Nampa.

OSHA cited the company for violations that included not logging an employee injury that required treatment beyond first aid, the Spokesman-Review reported.

The incident involved an injury to a worker’s hand, according to OSHA documents cited by the publication. OSHA initially proposed a $1,611 penalty, which was lifted last week.

OSHA cited the company for three other violations, including creating a tripping hazard from uneven flooring; not covering a 2-inch-deep hole near a door; and not mounting an outlet box to a surface.

Amazon is using the modular distribution center, which opened in Nampa in November, as a temporary facility while the company awaits construction of a permanent, 2.6-million-square-foot distribution center.
