A Piqua, Ohio, foundry company is facing 20 citations − including seven repeat violations − and $57,140 in federal fines after the Occupational Safety and Health Administration turned up respiratory and amputation hazards.
Piqua Champion Foundry exposed nine of its workers to dangerous amounts of silica dust, which can lead to silicosis, OSHA announced in a July 17 press release. The violations were uncovered while employees were grinding castings and relining a furnace in January.
