Senate Approves Increasing Uninsured Employers' Fund Assessment

The Maryland Senate passed a bill that would allow the Uninsured Employers' Fund Board to direct the Workers' Compensation Commission to increase the assessment on awards and settlements to cover losses. The Senate voted 35-12 on Friday to pass Senate Bill 219, by the Senate Finance Committee. The bill would increase to 1.5% from 1% the cap on the special assessment that can be levied when the uninsured employer fund is underfinanced.
