Roofing Contractor Fined for Exposing Employees to Falls

Thursday, July 23, 2020 | 0

Federal workplace safety officials cited a Florida roofing contractor for exposing workers to fall hazards at two work sites.

Camaney Services of Central Florida Inc., headquartered in Lake Worth, faces $49,930 in penalties.

OSHA said it initiated an inspection as part of its Regional Emphasis Program to reduce falls in the construction industry.

The agency said Camaney Services failed to develop and implement an accident prevention program, train employees on how to recognize and control fall hazards, and conduct regular inspections of work sites to ensure that a conventional fall protection system was available to employees.

In addition, OSHA cited the company for failing to ensure that portable ladders extended at least 3 feet above the upper landing and allowing employees to use an A-frame ladder improperly.

The company has 15 business days from receipt of the citations and proposed penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA's area director or contest the findings before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
