LA Mayor Denies Funds for SIU, Council Asked

The Los Angeles Daily News reported yesterday that even though Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn has vetoed funding for a workers' compensation special investigations unit for the city, City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo is taking the cause to the City Council because he believes a unit could save the city more than it would cost to run it. Delgadillo told the paper that work comp costs are "out of control" and that his request for $450,000 in the 2003-04 budget to pay for one new attorney and three investigators and buy surveillance equipment would put a sizable dent in the city's anticipated $142 mil...
