The California Assembly passed a bill that would specify which tests should be used to determine whether certain groups of workers should be classified as contractors.
The Assembly voted 59-15 on Wednesday to pass Assembly Bill 5.
The bill would apply the so-called “ABC test” from the state Supreme Court’s 2018 decision in Dynamex Operations West Inc. v. Superior Court of Los Angeles to many Labor Code disputes. The high court’s decision is currently limited to wage order disputes.
