A regulation adopted by the California Department of Industrial Relations requires refineries to adopt new process standards aimed at preventing accidents such as the 2012 chemical release and fire at a Chevron refinery in Richmond in 2012.
In a press release Thursday, the department called the new rule a “landmark regulation” that will strengthen workplace safety and health at oil refineries across the state.
