In March, a 42-year-old man on his shift at the Koch Foods poultry plant in Mississippi lacerated his finger after his glove got caught in a conveyor. One month later, a 23-year-old woman broke two fingers while attempting to clear a jam in a gizzard chiller.
Federal safety inspections of the Morton facility conducted after the incidents uncovered electrical shock hazards, fall hazards and inadequate machine guards, among other issues. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued Koch Foods of Mississippi LLC penalties that brought a fine of $88,000.
