California's independent medical reviewer last year upheld utilization review decisions and denied more than four out of five treatment requests that were brought to it, according to a Division of Workers' Compensation report. A "vast majority of IMR decisions were evidence-based," with a majority citing the state's Medical Treatment Utilization Schedule as the justification for why a requested treatment was or was not medically appropriate, according to the report published Friday.
