United Parcel Service is facing $208,603 in proposed federal penalties for allegedly obstructing exit routes at its distribution center in Sharonville, Ohio.
According to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, UPS failed to maintain exit routes at multiple spots, putting its workers at risk.
For example, OSHA alleges, a roller extension unloader device was permanently positioned and attached to a conveyor belt, limiting the access route. Management allowed packages to pile up in aisles, OSHA said, and some access routes were reduced to just 7 inches.
