A federal grand jury has indicted a Columbus, Ohio, pharmacist for 46 counts related to health care fraud for allegedly defrauding the state Bureau of Workers' Compensation, Medicare, Medicaid and private insurers.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for Southern Ohio, 59-year-old Maria Mascio paid kickbacks to a doctor in exchange for the free drug samples given to him by pharmaceutical representatives, and also billed insurers, the BWC and federal health care programs for drugs that were not dispensed.
