A lawmaker in Maine is proposing to make permanent a presumption that post-traumatic stress disorder is compensable for certain first responders.
Maine lawmakers in 2017 enacted legislation creating the presumption that PTSD is compensable for law enforcement, firefighters and emergency medical workers. In 2021, lawmakers added 911 dispatchers and corrections officers to the presumption.
The presumption is scheduled to sunset Oct. 1.
House Bill 82, by Rep. Kristi Mathieson, D-Kittery, would repeal the sunset provision and make the presumption permanent.
