Bill Would Modify How Some Ag Workers' Weekly Wage Is Calculated

A Minnesota lawmaker introduced legislation at the last minute Saturday that would recalculate the average weekly wage for some part-time agricultural employees.
Senate Bill 4108, sponsored by state Sen. Mark Johnson, R-East Grand Forks, would address compensation for farmworkers who work less than 30 days a year and have concurrent employment. The average weekly wage would be based on the worker's daily wage times five, or based on the worker's other employment, whichever is greater, the bill reads.
The bill was introduced Saturday and was assigned to the Senate Jobs and Economic Growth, Finance and Policy Committee. The legislative session ended Sunday night, before any further action was taken.
