Senate Bill 1058, sponsored by state Sen. James Welch, D-Springfield, passed the Senate Labor and Workforce Development Committee this week. It's now in the hands of the Senate Ways and Means Committee.

A hearing is set for April 21.

The bill reads: "Any employer conducting business in the commonwealth for fewer than twenty (20) days per calendar year which can produce proof of workers' compensation insurance considered valid in any state of the United States of America, shall be deemed to be in compliance with all requirements relative to the provision of workers' compensation insurance in the commonwealth.”
