Report Will Explore Effects of Opioid Prescription Limits

The Maine Bureau of Insurance will meet with stakeholders Oct. 31 to discuss the 2015 Public Law Chapter 488, An Act to Prevent Opiate Abuse by Strengthening the Controlled Substances Prescription Monitoring Program. The law requires the bureau to report to the Legislature by Jan. 1, 2018, the effects of prescription limits on claims paid by carriers, and the out-of-pocket costs paid by members. In advance of the meeting, carriers are asked to provide information on past claims and future projections.
