Workers’ compensation carriers in Utah could be ordered to pay “add-on” fees for denying a medical claim that is ultimately found compensable.
Sen. Karen Mayne, D-West Valley City, on Wednesday introduced SB 76, which would authorize the so-called add-on fees, ranging from 25% to 35%, depending on the administrative body or court that ultimately rules an injured worker was entitled to benefits.
The bill would authorize the Industrial Commission to award add-on fees when:
A medical claim is at issue.
The carrier issues an unconditional denial of the medical claim.
