The New York State Insurance Department has launched a criminal and civil investigation of insurers and agents who may be using a variety of ploys to strip American International Group (AIG) subsidiaries of their policies, officials confirmed Tuesday.Steve Nachman, deputy New York insurance superintendent for frauds and consumer services, said investigators are acting on calls numbering "in the dozens" from policyholders reporting they have been warned to drop their AIG policies and sign up with companies represented by the agents.
