Doctor Charged in Sleep Study Fraud Case Dies

A Southern California doctor who has been defending himself against charges that he participated in a sleep study scam that defrauded carriers out of $17 million died over the weekend. Dr. Thomas M. Heric died Saturday at the age of 81, according to an obituary notice posted online by Gates, Kingsley & Gates Smith Salsbury Funeral Directors. Heric was charged in 2011 with receiving payments to analyze the results of sleep study tests that weren’t actually performed.
