A Southern California doctor who has been defending himself against charges that he participated in a sleep study scam that defrauded carriers out of $17 million died over the weekend.
Dr. Thomas M. Heric died Saturday at the age of 81, according to an obituary notice posted online by Gates, Kingsley & Gates Smith Salsbury Funeral Directors.
Heric was charged in 2011 with receiving payments to analyze the results of sleep study tests that weren’t actually performed. Heric allegedly found all 1,247 patients referred to him from Better Sleeping Medical Center were disabled.
