Trust Battle Grows to Include Union and Others

Acting New York Supreme Court Judge Kimberly A. O'Connor  last week extended the battle over efforts by the State Workers' Compensation Board (SWCB) to collect emergency assessments from healthy group self-insured trusts to make up for the collapse of a string of trusts dating back to 2006 and allowed the AFL-CIO to enter the controversial case.On Thursday, O'Connor granted the union the right to file an amicus curiae brief in a lawsuit brought by 13 group self-insured trusts.
