Trench cave-ins have been a problem for decades, frequently leading to deaths of workers caught inside.
The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation hopes to change that and has announced a $2 million grant program to help excavation companies buy trench boxes and shoring equipment, and to provide training to workers.
The bureau said that in 2019 four workers were killed in separate trench accidents in Ohio.
