Bermuda-based Everest Re Group Ltd. announced that second-quarter after-tax operating income dropped during the second quarter, yet the global reinsurer posted a $62 million gain in net income.
The after-tax operating income (excluding realized capital gains and losses) was $213.3 million compared to $218.7 million for the same quarter a year ago.
Net income was $282.9 million for the second quarter of 2007, up from $220.4 million for the second quarter of 2006. Net income per diluted share grew by 31.7% in the quarter.
