A workers' compensation claimant with a previous settlement will be sentenced on Oct. 21 after pleading guilty to two felony counts of insurance fraud, American Commercial Claims Administrators (ACCA) said in a press release on Wednesday.
ACCA said Jose Ortiz, 43, of Oxnard was arrested Sept. 15 for five counts of insurance fraud after filing a workers' compensation claim as a result of an injury while working as a laborer. Ortiz claimed to have sustained a lower back injury while jumping over a ditch. The claim was denied following a medical evaluation that found no industrial injury.
