California employees are more likely to suffer on-the-job injuries during hot days, regardless of whether they work outside, according to a new University of California, Los Angeles, study published Friday.
The study, which compared localized weather data with more than 11 million workers’ comp claims between 2001 and 2018, found that warm weather greatly increases the risk of workplace accidents.
Workers are 6%-9% more likely to be injured on days when high temperatures climb above 90 degrees. The injury risk jumps by 10%-15% on days that top 100 degrees, according to the study.
