Birger Greg Bacino, who pleaded no contest in 2010 to illegally acquiring workers' compensation patients for Southern California firm Premier Medical Management Systems, was killed in a plane crash last week.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office on Saturday confirmed that Bacino, 56, and 58-year-old pilot David Martz both died in a crash Thursday. The two were flying from Lompoc to Carlsbad when they apparently had engine trouble and crashed in the Los Padres National Forest.
The sheriff's office reported receiving a "Mayday" call at about 10 p.m. on Aug. 6. Emerge...
