The on-demand courier service Shyp has decided to reclassify its workers as employees the same week a lawsuit was filed against the company by two of its workers, according to an announcement made by the company’s chief executive officer.
The lawsuit comes at a time when a number of tech companies, including Washio, Postmates and Uber, have been under scrutiny and legal pressure to change its worker classifications to employees from independent contractors, which has allowed them to avoid paying for benefits like Social Security along with providing workers’ compensation...
