A Kansas aircraft manufacturer is facing proposed federal penalties of $193,218 for allegedly exposing workers to hexavalent chromium, a known carcinogen.
Wichita-based Spirit Aerosystems Inc. was cited by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration on Tuesday for two repeated and four serious violations. The company has 15 business days to contest the penalties.
OSHA alleges the company failed to implement feasible engineering controls to limit employee exposure to hexavalent chromium and failed to conduct periodic monitoring of employee exposure.
