Insured Workers' Bar Enters Group Self-Insured Trust Battle in N.Y.

The New York Injured Workers' Bar Association (IWBA) plans to move to intervene on behalf of the State Workers' Compensation Board (SWCB) and the AFL-CIO in a legal battle over at least $54 million in emergency assessments levied by the board to cover the failure of group self-insured trusts dating back to 2006.Bar Association President Barbara Levine said Tuesday the claimants' bar is seeking to enter the case to block attempts by attorneys for healthy trusts to remove the AFL-CIO's status as a friend of the court in the litigation.But she said in an interview that injured wor...
