More than two dozen business groups have joined to fight a bill that would give workers’ compensation judges the authority to determine whether workers have been misclassified as independent contractors.Under the bill, H7277, the judges could fine an employer between $500 and $3,000 per worker that they find to have been misclassified, even if the employer has followed Internal Revenue Service guidelines for classification.
