An 83-year-old Minnesota woman lost $12,600 in an online scam in which she was told she had to pay money to learn whether she was eligible for workers’ compensation benefits, according to media reports.
KIMT reports the Rochester Police Department said the victim received a Facebook Messenger message from a friend who claimed to have collected $10,000 in workers’ compensation benefits. The message directed the woman to contact someone who could determine whether she, too, is eligible to collect benefits.
