DWC Proposes Rule Change to Ease Penalty Provisions

The Florida Division of Workers’ Compensation is proposing a rule amendment that will allow contractors that are issued a stop-work order for failure to provide coverage to make three, instead of six, payments toward the penalty amount. When the division cites employers for failing to provide workers’ compensation, it allows businesses to pay penalties in monthly installments. But if an employer misses a scheduled payment, the stop-work order is reinstated and the entire penalty amount is due and payable.
