The city of Galveston has joined Austin in pulling its Ford Explorer police cruisers off the road because of carbon monoxide worries.
Twenty-seven modified Explorers, called Police Interceptors, were removed last week from the police fleet, and five other Explorers were pulled from service by other city agencies, KIAH Channel 39 reported.
Austin is removing 446 Explorers from its police fleet after 62 officers filed workers’ compensation claims over carbon monoxide exposure within the past five months.
