Businessman Charged With Fraud Through Alleged Shell Corporation

Friday, September 9, 2016 | 0

A South Florida businessman created a shell corporation to defraud one insurance company out of nearly $1 million, investigators told CBS12 in West Palm Beach.

Eric Horace Hanson, of Coral Springs, faces charges of grand theft and organized scheme to defraud, investigators with the Florida Department of Financial Services’ Division of Insurance Fraud told the station.

Lt. Stacey Spirn alleged Hanson rented workers’ compensation policies to unlicensed and uninsured subcontractors who then hired illegal immigrants to do construction jobs. The immigrants needed such papers to gain access to work sites in Broward, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties.

“From 2014 on, his annual payroll jumped from $20,000 to the millions with no employees,” Spirn told CBS12.
