This will be the second meeting of the committee, and the group will hear from two organizations about formularies and guidelines used in some states, according to the agenda.

The American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine will make a presentation, followed by Joe Guerriero, senior vice president of the ReedGroup, which produces MDGuidelines, one of two major U.S. sources for disability and prescribing guidelines.

Kentucky's Workers' Compensation Commissioner Robert Swisher appointed the committee and a regulatory advisory committee to tackle the regulations that the reform bill requires to be in place by the end of the year.

At its initial meeting May 31, the medical committee, made up of doctors and chiropractors, discussed the requirements of the law, reviewed options on a formulary and examined statistics that show that injured workers who are prescribed opioids average four times as many prescriptions as those who are not prescribed the addictive medications, the minutes of the meeting show.

Thursday's meeting is available via WebEx. The meeting number is 190 564 703, and a phone number for an audio connection is 415-655-0001.
