A Texas appellate court upheld an award of death benefits to a cancer-stricken firefighter’s widow.
Charlie Jaimes worked as a firefighter for the City of Dallas, a self-insured workers' compensation provider. In 2011, Jaimes was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer.
He filed a claim for occupational disease injury with the Division of Workers' Compensation, but his claim was denied.
Jaimes died in June 2014 and his widow filed a claim for death benefits in April 2016.
