Injury Rate Climbs Slightly; Still Below U.S. Rate

Workplace injury and illness rates in Texas ticked up slightly in 2019 but remain well below rates seen a decade ago, according to two reports from the state Division of Workers' Compensation. The reports show that Texas had a nonfatal injury and illness rate of 2.1 per 100 workers last year. That's up from the 2.0 rate of 2018, but less than the 2.7 rate seen in 2010 through 2012. It's also less than the U.S. rate of 2.8 injuries and illnesses per 100 workers, a rate that has remained flat in recent years.
