The pharmaceutical company Insys Therapeutics Inc. will pay $4.45 million to settle a lawsuit claiming it used deceptive marketing practices and sold a highly addictive opioid for non-approved treatments, state Attorney General Lisa Madigan said.
The settlement resolves Madigan’s 2016 lawsuit against Insys for its sale of Subsys, which is significantly stronger than morphine and intended to be used only for the treatment of breakthrough cancer pain, the AG said.
