Employees at Risk of Cave-In Cause Employer's Citations

Employees of a company installing sewer lines in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, were at risk of the trench they were working in collapsing on them, causing inspectors for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to issue four citations to their employer.  DS Utilities Inc. faces up to $68,600 in proposed penalties, according to the administration.  An inspection in January this year showed that workers were in a 9.5-foot trench without cave-in protection and there was no safe exit or entrance into the trench, exposing workers to hazardous falls from an open hole.  &qu...
