The state’s former secretary of labor and industry has been named director of the U.S. Labor Department’s Office of Workers’ Compensation.
Before joining the federal agency, Julia K. Hearthway had been a state appellate judge and CEO of a consulting firm after serving four years as secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry.
The federal Office of Workers’ Compensation oversees compensation benefits for federal employees, longshore and harbor workers, Department of Energy nuclear weapons workers and coal miners.
