California lawmakers on Wednesday voted to send the governor a bill that would require employers to reclassify a large swath of workers as employees, while the author of the measure introduced new legislation proposing to exempt another group of workers from the new rules.
The Assembly voted 56-15 to concur with amendments Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, D-San Diego, made to Assembly Bill 5 while the measure was in the Senate, including a host of exemptions for doctors, lawyers, securities brokers, cosmetologists, manicurists, artists and commercial fishing workers.
