The California Workers' Compensation Institute reported that total paid losses for public self-insured employers increased about 8.3% in the most recent fiscal year despite the total number of claims falling by 1.8%.
CWCI said an 18.7% increase in average medical payments and a 5.3% increase in average indemnity payments drove public self-insureds' total paid losses to $552.9 million for the fiscal year that ended in June from $510.3 million.
