Law Now Requires, Not Allows, Direct Deposit

Just a few months after New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a law allowing injured workers to opt for direct deposit of benefits, he has signed another bill requiring the direct electronic payments when requested. Assembly Bill 1251, introduced by Rep. Karines Reyes, D-Bronx, will take effect July 1. The law will supersede A7579, which also was sponsored by Reyes and was signed into law in November. The 2020 measure did not mandate that insurance carriers and self-insurers provide direct deposit of benefits but simply allowed the electronic payment method if requested by a claima...
