CWCI Opens Registration for Annual Meeting

The California Workers’ Compensation Institute opened registration for its 59th annual meeting, set for March 8 in Walnut Creek.

The meeting will address ongoing economic and demographic changes in California and their influence on the state’s workers’ compensation system. CWCI said the program will include:

  • CWCI Senior Vice President Rena David and President Alex Swedlow will present new research on issues that are likely to be reform targets in 2023, including managed care reform and cumulative trauma.
  • Sarah Bohn, vice president of research and senior fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California, will offer insights on the evolving state economy and demographic shifts, and assess their impact on the state’s industries and workforce.
  • Dave Bellusci, executive vice president and chief actuary for the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau, will speak to the intersection of the California economy and workers’ compensation rates.
  • Jason Schmelzer, legislative advocate and partner at Shaw, Yoder, Antwih, Schmelzer & Lange, will join CWCI General Counsel Sara Widener-Brightwell to discuss the political environment and the key players who will be involved in 2023 reforms.

The CWCI 59th annual meeting is free to CWCI member company employees, regulators and $325 for all others.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 8 in the Hofmann Theater at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek.
