Newspaper: Lansing Becoming Insurance Industry Hub

The steady growth of insurers, including workers' comp carrier Accident Fund Insurance Co., is bringing insurance-industry employment in Lansing, Michigan, to nearly 10,000, which would make the city an insurance hub on par with Hartford, Connecticut, and Indianapolis, Indiana, according to a report in the Lansing State Journal.
The newspaper focused on brisk growth at Jackson National Life Insurance Co., which is building a 225,000-square-foot building to house 1,100 information and legal employees in a project expected to be completed in October. The company has filled a 314,000-square-foot headquarters building that it constructed in 1999.
According to the article, Jackson National, Accident Fund, Delta Dental of Michigan, Auto-Owners Insurance, Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan and Michigan Millers Mutual Insurance have a combined employment of 6,392. Add in 900 more jobs at smaller insurance company branches in the Lansing region and 2,600 financial industry jobs and the total for the sector reaches 9,900.
"This is the tipping point for getting us on the national map as a major player in the industry," said Bob Trezise, president and chief executive officer of the Lansing Economic Area Partnership.
