Study Shows Recession Slowed Rise in Comp Costs

Michigan's deep recession has affected the workers' compensation system in the state, slowing some claim cost increases, a new study by the Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) reports.The study, "CompScope Benchmarks for Michigan, 12th Edition," says that "amid recessionary pressures, indemnity costs per claim ... grew modestly between 2008 and 2009, rising 3.4%."That increase was less than the typical 6% increase of the 16 states in the national study, which were California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jerse...
