Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley appointed a Mobile claimants' attorney as Mobile County District judge, the Press-Register newspaper reported on Friday.The governor named Jay York to the post, which is open because of the retirement of Judge Michael McMaken, the newspaper said.York was one of three lawyers recommended for the post by the Mobile County Judicial Commission, a five-member panel chaired by Presiding Circuit Court Charles Graddick, the newspaper said.York, 56, will earn $118,948 as a judge, the Press-Register said.
