L&I Credits Focus on Safety for Low Fatality Rate

The Washington state Department of Labor and Industries said the state’s focus on workplace safety has resulted in one of the lowest rates of occupational fatalities in the nation. There were 64 occupational deaths in Washington in 2017, a rate of 2.5 deaths per 100,000 workers. The fatality rate was up slightly from 2016. However, L&I said the workplace fatality rate is 30% below the national average.
