A bill on Hawaii Gov. David Ige's desk would impose a seven-day deadline on employers to object to medical treatment requested for injured workers, but administration officials have expressed opposition to the measure.
House Bill 2017 by Rep. Mark M. Nakashima would allow physicians to submit treatment plans via facsimile, the Internet or email and would require employers to accept electronically submitted treatment plans starting in 2021. The bill also would deem requested treatment as accepted by the employer if an objection is not filed within seven days.
