American Standard Plant Gets Safety Certificate

Tuesday, August 7, 2018 | 0

The Kentucky Labor Department has awarded a top safety certificate to a manufacturer of American Standard bath and shower units.

The department's Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) certificate went to a LIXIL Corp. plant in Somerset, Kentucky, officials said in news release.

LIXIL owns American Standard. The plant has 36 employees and has been in operation since 1991.

"The SHARP certification plaque is one example of the many ways we can increase awareness of promoting worker safety," said Labor Cabinet Acting Secretary David Dickerson.

The SHARP certification was designed by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to encourage safety and health among smaller employers. Employers learn how to maintain safe workplaces, and set up safety and health management systems.

Upon achieving SHARP status, employers are exempt from scheduled inspections for two years, and subsequent renewal of the SHARP status may result in three-year exemptions.
