The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries is proposing a 4.8% increase in the average price of workers’ compensation insurance for next year.
If approved, the increase would mean employers and workers would jointly pay an average of $61 per year more for coverage in 2023, the department said.
Employers in Washington are allowed to deduct up to half of the cost of the premium portion that pays for medical benefits and cost of living increases from employees’ wages. Employers pay the entire portion of the premium that covers indemnity benefits and pensions.
