An out-of-state attorney general has asked to file an amicus brief in support of a California carrier suing Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara for securing a conservation plan and blocking a merger the insurer planned with its sister company in New Mexico. In documents filed Friday with the U.S. District Court for Eastern California, New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas echoes claims made by California Insurance Co., which sued Lara earlier this year for allegedly abusing his influence and waging a personal vendetta against CIC’s proprietors.
